In Mumbai, the CBI filed a chargesheet against income-tax officer Sandeep Singh on Monday. Singh was on deputation as an assistant director with the Enforcement Directorate (ED) when he allegedly accepted a bribe in August. He led an ED search team that raided a jeweler's home in Mumbai as part of an investigation into a money laundering case associated with a Chinese-controlled investment app. Despite Singh not being the investigating officer, he reportedly demanded a Rs 20 lakh bribe from the jeweler after the raid, threatening to arrest his son. The jeweler reported the incident to the CBI, leading to Singh's arrest in Delhi after he collected the bribe. Singh's bail application was previously denied, and he is currently in custody. The CBI seized a phone not registered in Singh's name during his arrest.
